Welcome to the home of the Sherwood Forest Area Repeater.
This repeater is currently available to all licensed GMRS operators on 462.650 MHz using a 136.5 Hz CTCSS tone.
The Sherwood Forest Area Repeater exists both as a practical local-area communications system and as a platform for radio hobby projects and technical experimentation. The system is presently built from a pair of Baofeng radios fully computer-controlled by an Intel Atom based mobile PC running Linux accompanied by custom lightweight scripts, which manages repeater control and ongoing radio experimentation. The current RF hardware is temporary and will soon be upgraded to commercial-grade Motorola radios for improved reliability, audio quality, and long-term performance.
Automated features include:
Hourly self-identification
Local time announcements
Weather reports at the top of every hour
Future plans for the system include:
Emergency-use telephone patch capability
Expanded public access once transitioned into an amateur radio repeater system
This project is independently operated and continuously evolving as new hardware, software, and RF experiments are developed and tested.
Questions, comments, or signal reports are always welcome at web@braedenstuff.com.
